Originally a Lucerne farm, the 1985 purchase of the 40-hectare "Bremerton Lodge" marked a shift to winemaking. The journey began in 1988 with the production of Cabernet Sauvignon, gradually expanding to include a diverse range of varietals. Despite setbacks, including a significant flood in 1992, the Willson family strategically transitioned the property into a renowned vineyard. By 1994, Bremerton embraced commercial winemaking, launching a cellar door in 1994 and achieving international acclaim for their Cabernet Sauvignon in 1997.
Guided by Winemaker Rebecca Willson and Marketing Manager Lucy Willson, the brand prioritizes high-quality and distinctive wines, earning Bremerton a solid position in the competitive market. Their dedication has secured a James Halliday 5-star winery rating for 17 consecutive years, placing them among the top 5% of Australian wineries. The Willson Sisters have successfully elevated Bremerton to prominence as one of South Australia's well-known wine brands from Langhorne Creek.
★★★★★
"Bremerton is a family-owned winery, run by sisters Rebecca Willson (chief winemaker) and Lucy Willson (marketing manager). Previously a lucerne farm, the family experimented with grape growing in the ’80s and ’90s; a flood in ’92 ruined the lucerne crop and led the family to switch to grape growing commercially. Today they have 120ha of premium vineyards (80% of which goes into their own labels), planted to cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, verdelho, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, malbec, merlot, fiano, graciano and petit verdot."
